Welcome to Pro Ag's 2012 scouting report page. This year we have two interns who will be submitting reports weekly on what they are finding out in the fields. I (Jason) will also be putting in some comments from time to time. Our goal is to keep you informed on what is going on out in the fields, and we hope that this will help you keep up to date on the latest pests and problems.

My name is Chelsey Pizel and I am the other intern working at Pro Ag for the summer. I am attending North Dakota State University for Agribusiness. I graduated from Brandon High School and live two miles north of Brandon.

This morning we attended the Answer Plot training in Fergus Falls put on by Winfield. This was a good way to learn more about the tissue sampling we've been conducting. The next training is on July 27 with the last one on September 7.  Everyone is encouraged to attend and learn more about your crops, with a free lunch included!

This week's scouting report consists of:

Corn: Most corn we've been scouting is between 3 to 5 leaf stages. This week we've been tissue sampling mainly corn fields and the results have been coming back deficient mostly in Boron, and some in Zinc. We've also seen cutworms in some fields; keep an eye out for yellowing corn especially in the new (top) leaves.

Wheat: Some wheat has reached the flagleaf stage.

Soybeans: Most beans are in the unifoliate or first trifoliate stage. We have not found any signs of aphids yet, but keep an eye out! Once the plant reaches the first trifoliate stage we can start tissue sampling beans as well.

Have a Great week!
