Archer-Daniels-Midland Earnings Preview: What to Expect

Chicago-based Archer-Daniels-Midland Company (ADM) engages in the procurement, transportation, storage, processing, and merchandising of agricultural commodities, ingredients, flavors, and solutions. With a market cap of $26.6 billion, the company’s operations span the Americas, Europe, and internationally.
The farm products giant is expected to release its Q2 earnings on Tuesday, Jul. 29. Ahead of the event, analysts expect ADM to report a profit of $0.95 per share, down 7.8% from $1.03 per share reported in the year-ago quarter. The company has surpassed or matched the Street’s earnings projections thrice over the past four quarters while missing the estimates on one other occasion.
For the full fiscal 2025, analysts expect the company to deliver an EPS of $4.05, down 14.6% from $4.74 reported in the previous fiscal. However, in fiscal 2026, its earnings are expected to rebound 14.1% year-over-year to $4.62 per share.
ADM has dropped 11.2% over the past 52 weeks, substantially underperforming the S&P 500 Index’s ($SPX) 11.9% gains and the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund’s (XLP) 6.1% returns during the same time frame.
ADM stock prices rose 1.7% after the release of its mixed Q1 results on May 6. Due to growing macro challenges, the company’s revenues for the quarter dropped 7.7% year-over-year to $20.2 billion, missing the Street’s expectations by 2.5%. However, the company focused on operational efficiency and expense management during the quarter. Although its adjusted net income dropped from $750 million in Q1 2024 to $338 million, its adjusted EPS of $0.70 surpassed the Street’s expectations by 1.5%.
Analysts remain cautious about the stock’s prospects. ADM has a consensus “Hold” rating overall. Of the 11 analysts covering the stock, opinions include one “Strong Buy,” seven “Holds,” two “Moderate Sells,” and one “Strong Sell.” As of writing, the stock is trading notably above its mean price target of $48.70.
